WHAT IS ZMEI ACADEMY?
An intensive three-month online course that will cover the basics of hand drawn and rigged 2D animation principles using Toon Boom Harmony.
Simon Valenza (FR)
Simon focus is special effects for traditional animation. After graduating from the EMCA School of Animation, Simon gained experience as a character animator before settling in the world of 2D FX. He is currently the 2D FX Lead for the French TV series Nate is Late and combines this responsibility with various freelance projects.
Damien Millereau (FR)
Damien is a 2D animator with 30+ years of experience, who has worked on TV series such as Babar, Tintin, Oggy and the Cockroaches. Damien has also worked on 2D animated feature films, like the Academy Award Nominated Persepolis, Lucky Luke(Tous à l’ouest), The Rabbi’s Cat and more recently on Where is Anne Frank.
Mark Sidlovsky (Czech)
Mark is an experienced ToonBoom animator and animation director, who has in his portfolio shows such as The Amazing World of Gumball, Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese, Alva’s World and My Little Pony: Pony Life. Mark will be teaching the Zmei Academy students the basics of successful work with ToonBoom Harmony.
Anyone who wants to learn 2D Animation and develop as a professional in the animation industry. As added value, the animation company Studio Zmei will present a job offer to the best students on several of its upcoming international projects!
The course will be taught in English, as all our tutors are from France and Chezh Republic.
Yes! Since the course is online you will need a Mac/PC or laptop, covering the minimum requirements for running the software (Toon boom Harmony). You will also need a graphic tablet for the 2D part of the course – even a basic one will do. And finally, since it is an online course – a microphone and/or headphones or camera will also be needed.
Classes will be held three days per week for apx. 2 hours. Students will also get homework assignments and exercises, which the tutors will review and give feedback and comments.
We will first cover the basics, including the 12 principles of animation, introduction to animation software and methodology, and how to animate a simple movement. We will then talk about more complex movements, action, runs and jumps, and even acting, lip-sync and emotional impact. On top of that, you will learn how to use Toon Boom Harmony and apply its numerous advantages in digital puppet animation.
The course is very practical, led by working professionals in the industry, with international experience on numerous big-scale projects. The focus of the course is to provide key skills and competences for work on modern commercial animation projects such as 2D TV series or 2D features. As an added value, the best students in the course will be offered to join Studio Zmei’s animation team.
